- Jacob Read (1752-1816) was an American lawyer and politician from Charleston, South Carolina, who represented that state in both the Continental Congress and the United States Senate. Correspondence concerns legal, legislative, and other official business; and local matters in Charleston. Correspondents include Patrick and Joseph Calhoun, as well as other prominent South Carolina lawyers and politicians. Family news is discussed in letters with his brother, William Read.
