  • "Containing an immense number of the most popular songs and ballads of every style; and among them are those "specialties" written by or for that unapproachable mimic and actor-vocalist, Sol Smith Russell. This book also contains the following droll pieces, set to music, as sung by Mr. Russell: The elopement, a little episode warbled to the "Ebenezer Darning Society." The son of a gambolier, an original sketch for one person, with the very amusing song of that name. Goose with sage and inguns, arranged for the piano by Alfred B. Sedgwick. Who's dat knockin' at de garden gate? a very laughable sketch with music. Yawning Joe, a musical variety sketch, adapted and music composed by Alfred B. Sedgwick. Little old log cabin in the lane, an original sketch for two characters, with the music. My gal, a pleasing sketch and song for two characters, arranged by R.R. Steirly. The whistling thief, a very funny Irish sketch for two or three characters, with the song music. Just touch the harp gently, my pretty Louise, a sketch for one character, founded on the exquisite ballad by S.N. Mitchell, with the beautiful music by Blamphin. To which are added a large number of popular songs, set to music expressly for this work."
