- "Harrisse (Bibl. amer. vet., no. 110) has called it [the Enchiridion] an extract from the Fourth decade ... But Stevens and other authorities define it as a substitute for the lost first letter of Cortes ... and it supplements, rather than overlaps, Martyr's other narratives ... This tract was reprinted in the Novus orbis (Basle, 1532), and was appended to the Antwerp edition (1536) of Brocard's Descriptio Terræ Sanctæ ... It is also in the Novus orbis of Rotterdam, 1596."--Winsor, Narr. and crit. hist. of America, v.1, p. xxi.
