- Includes poems, letters, and speeches in honor of William Cullen Bryant read at his 70th birthday celebration at the Century Association, N.Y. Among those who paid tribute to Bryant were George Bancroft, president of the Century Association, Bayard Taylor, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Julia Ward Howe, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, James Russell Lowell, and John Greenleaf Whittier.

- The illustrations include a headpiece on p. [3] signed "Anthony-Davis NY" (apparently a collaboration between A.V.S. Anthony and J.P. Davis), photographs and engravings. Only plates 15, 16, 19 and 22 are signed; engraved by H.W. Smith, S.A. Schoff, J. Cheney, and J.B. Forrest after S.W. Rowse, C.L. Elliott, and W.R. Miller.
