  • The coast from the Kennebec to the St. Croix River, granted to William Alexander, earl of Stirling, by the Council of New England 1635, and sold in 1663 to the Earl of Clarendon for the Duke of York. It was included in the latter's royal grant of 1664, of New York and other territories. Annexed to New England in 1786.
