- Description
- 1 videocassette (109:18) : sound, color; 1/2 in.
- Summary
- In this video, some paper authors in drag, some skits, some songs from the 1972 Cockettes musical extravangaza "Hot Greeks" ("Hot Greeks and "Accept with the left, and shake with the right" (?) / by Martin Worman and Richard "Scrumbly" Koldewyn), some slow dancing to Leiber and Stoller's "Is that all there is?" (excerpt sung by Peggy Lee) and some old Burlesque jokes about gay men helped liven the paper presentations of "Dr. Queen's Drag Academy" at the first Performance Studies International Conference, hosted by New York University. Papers: "Drag and the empowerment of the erotics of the Radical Faeries" / Jay Dorff (8:31-30:20) ; "The girls of Salome: Wilde and provocative" / Elizabeth Drorbaugh (31:20-55:55) ; "A brief history of the Cockettes" / Martin Worman (57:54-79:35) ; "Pansies: the flowers of burlesque" / Joe E. Jeffreys (80:31-103:24).
