- Biography
- Art historian Edith Balas was born in 1929 in Cluj, Romania. After surviving the Holocaust she married Egon Balas in 1948 and lived in Romania until 1966, when they emigrated to the United States. A professor of Art History at the Carnegie Mellon University, her research focuses on modern art (1890-1960), painting and sculpture; and the art of the Italian Renaissance, and in particular the works of Constantin Brâncuşi and Michelangelo.
