Description
1 sound disc (approximately 32 minutes) : digital; 4 3/4 in.
Summary
Marian Horosko, host on the radio program World of Dance, introduces her guests, Clive Barnes of The New York Times and Deborah Jowitt of The Village Voice; Barnes and Jowitt speak about the duties and responsibilities of being a critic and the relative scarcity of dance criticism and reader feedback on dance in the local media; Barnes and Jowitt discuss the Ford Foundation and its support of modern dance, in particular, its recent grants to subsidize several seasons of avant garde dance in New York City. Topics discussed in this connection include their differing views on the Foundation's approach to and responsibility for the choice of programs presented, the recent avant garde season at the Billy Rose Theater and City Center for Dance and Music, and the problem of how best to determine which artists to support.
