Summary
  • La vereda de Enfrente : A boy goes with another to lose his virginity to a prostitute on Isla Maciel. The film's simple plot serves as an excuse to make a descriptive essay on this "other world," so close to the European-seeming Buenos Aires.
  • El Otro Oficio: This film tells a simple story of an everyday sell-out among a group of workers looking for employment. Cedrón does not limit himself to the simple depiction of the problem, but also seeks to get its causes down on film and understand them. He does this in a stylized way, at times almost expressionistic, playing with the narrative times, the use of voiceover and unusual camera angles.
  • Por los Caminos del Libertador: With its abundance of ideas about form, and the audacity of what this film sought to do (follow José de San Martín's life in Europe), many consider this atypical documentary Jorge Cedrón's best film. On the one hand because it describes the Argentine founding father in decidedly revisionist terms; on the other hand because the battle scenes were drawn by Alberto Cedrón based on stills from Nilsson's film, without the latter ever realizing. But the director did not limit himself to artistically subverting the original plan of this film that he was commissioned to make, but also used the money he received to produce OPERATION MASSACRE in secret.
  • El Habilitado: Five employees stuck in the basement of a department store in Mar del Plata have a grotesque relationship with each other, each trying to feel better about himself by gaining miserly advantages over the others. The director didn't want to make a realist or autobiographical film, although most of the film is based on Cedrọn's own experiences as an employee at the Los Gallegos store. Rather, his goal was to create a work of raw poetry, based on the contrast between certain deliberately grotesque scenes and others of an absolute asceticism.
  • Operación Masacre: Adaptation of Rodolfo Walsh's book of the same name, OPERATION MASSACRE is the reconstruction of the 1956 firing squad executions in José León Suárez. Survivor Julio Tróxler plays himself in the film. This is one of the most important political-militant films in the history of Argentine cinema. It was also the first non-documentary, feature-length film to be conceived, produced and screened underground during the latter stages of the Lanusse dictatorship, and it is estimated that it was seen by one and a half million spectators in that parallel, clandestine circuit.
  • Resistir: Something of a schizophrenic film. On the one hand is the interview with Mario Firmenich in exile, filmed as conventionally as possible. On the other, there is the Argentine political history of the 20th century, illustrated with abundant rare archive footage and through the warmer, more sensitive viewpoint of an anonymous militant imagined by Cedrón and Gelman. Julio Cortázar wrote that "There is in this film an admirable collection of images that show with stunning clarity what the repression was like, starting from the first military dictatorships, and the true origin of the violence that the Junta attributed exclusively to the rebels."
  • Gotán: Jorge Cedrón's last film, a nostalgic and artistic statement. Cedrón did not explain why he made this film, saying only: "It had to be done." The result is one of joyful creative freedom, a musical collage in which the history of tango and its roots interweave with Argentine political history. A little Buenos Aires street reconstructed in the Ariane Mnouchkine Theatre, an old European who knows how to play all the melodies the bandoneon was designed for, but who doesn't know the tango, a meeting of friends in the workshop of Antonio Seguí, the music of Cuarteto Cedrón, hobbyhorses, and a disconcerted Indian are just some of the many elements that the director brought together in this unique and highly personal work which concludes with the stigmatic words that a dwarf speaks to the Indian: "Come and dance, for one should never lose one's joy!"
