The Protestant Episcopal Society for the Promotion of Evangelical Knowledge was located at 3 Bible House, New York, between 1862 and 1873. According to Philadelphia city directories, the Protestant Episcopal Book Society was located at 1224 Chestnut St. throughout this time period. Story on p. 53 mentions the Emancipation Proclamation (effective January 1, 1863); story on p. 71 mentions the great national Thanksgiving Day of 1863. Easter Day, and other stories is listed in a publisher's advertisement in Proceedings of the Board of Managers of the Protestant Episcopal Society for the Promotion of Evangelical Knowledge (New York, 1866), p. [4] of wrapper.
Wood-engraved plates signed by "B. Bondi sc." (i.e., Bianca Bondi?), "GAH del"(?) and Benson Lossing-Barrritt (i.e. J. Lossing and William Barritt).
