- The first Westerner ever to Curacao on his retina recorded was Alonso de Ojeda, the duality of the island described by saying: "Isla de los Gigantes" (Island of the Giants), but eventually labeled as "Isla inutile" (Idle Isle). More than a century later acknowledged the French, the English and Dutch are the strategic importance of this useless island as a trading base for the lucrative transatlantic slave trade. This double image of the island as both a unique and also a useless island by the colonial centuries little has changed. The artists in this catalog to come to light are, first "Yu di tera" (Country Kids) and other foreign artists who are transients or migrants found their mark and left on the cultural heritage of Curaçao. The multidisciplinary diversity of Curaçao art panorama is an essential part of this event and find reflected in the selection of artists.
