- Summary
- Part 1. (00:00-14:53) and Part 2 (00:00-30:11). Philip Sterling, the writer and public relations executive who worked for the Columbia Broadcasting System for many years, reads chapter about the history of Riverside City and County from his biographical book on the African American entertainer Bert Williams, to his recording device. This chapter includes the history of Riverside City and County, where Williams lived as a child. That book never was completed. The recording also includes interview with Ed [Edward] Rosenbaum. Rosenbaum who handled publicity of the Ziegfeld Follies theatrical productions on Broadway (1907-1910/11), recalls Bert Williams, the first black-featured performer in all-white show, who also worked at the Follies since 1910, and Williams successful roles in the Follies theatrical productions on New York stage, as well as the road shows during 1910-1911. Rosenbaum also talks about his own experience working for the Follies, and shares his memories about various producers, directors and actors who performed at the Follies in the beginning of the 20th century.
