Summary
"Rapid advances in computing have enabled the integration of corpora into language teaching and learning, yet in China corpus methods have not yet been widely adopted. Corpus Linguistics in Chinese Contexts aims to advance the state of the art in the use of corpora in applied linguistics and contribute to the expertise in corpus use in China. Uniquely, this book includes corpus studies on both Chinese and English, addressing the use of corpora in language teaching, analysis of learner language, as well as examinations of patterns of Chinese and English. Topics addressed include the novel extension of Lexical Priming theory to Chinese, textual analyses of both Chinese and English, and learner corpus studies. The book will appeal to all those interested in teaching or researching language using corpora, where either the target language, learners or teaching context is Chinese. "--

Note
  • "On 28-30 June 2012, Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) had the honour of hosting an international conference on Corpus Technologies and Applied Linguistics, CTAL-2012, in Suzhou. The event, co-sponsored by the University of Liverpool and the Corpus Linguistics Society of China, was a great success on at least two counts: it was the first major international corpus linguistics conference in China, and the first international conference hosted by XJTLU. There were more than 100 paper submissions, of which 68 were accepted for presentation by the Programme Committee. A total of 6 plenary speeches were given by international and Chinese corpus linguists of renown. For the first time ever at a single event, workshops on two popular corpus tools, Sketch Engine and Wordsmith Tools, were given by their designers. The contributions to this edited volume represent the best of CTAL-2012. A post conference call for full papers was issued, and after a rigorous process of double blind peer review, by an international panel of experts, 9 articles were selected for inclusion in the volume."
