- Das Buch ist ein aktueller Beitrag zur Debatte um postkoloniale Perspektiven in der Kunstwissenschaft. Im Zentrum steht die DAKART Biennale, an der sich ein gängiges identitätspolitisches Dilemma zeigt: Künstlerinnen und Künstler vom afrikanischen Kontinent müssen oft nicht nur 'zeitgenössisch', sondern auch 'afrikanisch' sein, um im internationalen, aber weiter westlich dominierten Kunstbetrieb Anerkennung zu erhalten. Aus einer postkolonialen und gendertheoretischen Perspektive argumentiert die Autorin, dass diese Problematik im Kontext des tradierten Primitivismusdiskurses zu sehen ist. In einer differenzierten Ausstellungsanalyse fragt sie nach kritischen künstlerischen und kuratorischen Strategien der DAKART 2006 und entwickelt daraus Vorschläge fü zeitgemäse kuratorische Ansätze.
