• Vignette on part one of the national songs illustrates mothers bringing their children to the Musik Saal to receive their new years gifts with musicians playing in a gallery to the rear. Those to the other parts illustrate children's activities around the year and different holidays (E.g. that to the second part illustrates the departure of the butchers' boys on Ash Wednesday; a man dressed as a bear frightens a girl and a little boy to right.).
• Vignette to part 8 of National children's songs illustrates a fair with man selling broadsides to the left, a Harlequin with horn announcing a performance, a toy stall, and a boy viewing a peepshow to right.
• Vignette to part 10 shows little boys doing weapons drill; that to part 12 shows books being distributed to studious youths.
• An examination in geometry is depicted in the vignette to part 14; a shelf near the ceiling displays an array of geometrical forms.
• Vignettes are about half-page and vary in width.
• The parts to the New Year's present to children of Zurich are subtitled: Der Schweizerknabe an sein Vaterland; Lied auf den Frieden; Geduld und Hoffnung; Der neue Schweizer=Bund.
