- Summary
- The first segment of the program airs a film entitled Shinnecock : story of a people, part I. This film documents the history of the Native American Shinnecock clans of eastern Long Island, focusing primarily on the early contacts and conflicts with the European colonists. The film also addresses how the Shinnecock are reclaiming their traditional way of life after centuries of adaptation to European and American culture. The second segment of the program airs filmed interviews with three student leaders of the Soweto rebellion of 1976. The first interview (filmed in March 1977) is with Khotso Seatlholo, President, and Tsietsi Mashinini, former President, of the Soweto Students' Representative Council. The second interview (filmed in December 1976) is with Jeff Dumo Baquua, former Director of Literacy of the South African Students' Organization. Topics discussed in both interviews are African liberation, land reform, self-determination, majority rule, and ending Apartheid.
