- Bound volumes containing newspaper clippings and notes collected by C.F. Durant. The oversize volume of clippings (1834-1837) documents the history of balloon flights, including the personal experiences of the aeronauts while in flight, giving distances, temperatures, and the manner of filling balloons, etc. The other volume documents a history of Charles F. Durant's experiences and accomplishments as an aeronaut, silk culturist, naturalist, and scientist.

- C.F. Durant was the first American to pilot a balloon, the importer of the silk-worm to the United States, and the author of several scientific books, including a book on the algae of New York harbor. Durant was the first American to make a profession of ballooning. He made his first ascension at Castle Garden in New York City on September 9, 1930.
