- Summary
- "The hand of the Brazilian people" was the temporary inaugural exhibition in MASP on Paulista Avenue in 1969, featuring a vast panorama of the rich culture material of Brazil - about 1000 objects, including masks, ex-votos, fabrics, clothes, furniture, tools, utensils, machines, musical instruments, ornaments, toys, religious objects, paintings and sculptures. The exhibition, designed by architect Lina Bo Bardi, Pietro Maria Bardi, the museum's director, filmmaker Glauber Rocha and theater director Martim Gonçalves, was the overcome of other exhibitions organized by Bo Bardi in MASP in São Paulo (1959), in Salvador (1963) and in Rome (1965), where they were closed by order of the Brazilian military Government, that resulted in an article by architect Bruno Zevi titled "L 'arte dei poveri fa paura ai generali" (The art of the poor scares the generals). "The new montage of "A mão do povo brasileiro" does not propose an exact reconstruction, but rather a re-enactment with adaptations, both from the list of works as well as from its museography, but following the guidelines, typology and concept of the original exhibition." (HKB Translation) --Page 28.
