  • About four dozen programs and playbills (1787 - 1937) for Much ado about nothing by William Shakespeare documenting performances by a range of actors from the late 18th to the mid-20 century in the United States and England. Includes Charles Kemble with Mrs. H. Johnston, Maria Theresa Kemble (billed as "Mrs. C. Kemble"), and, most likely, Miss Wensley of Bristol (billed as "the YOUNG LADY who performed Rosalind"); Edwin Booth with various acting partners; Henry Irving and Ellen Terry on tour in New York and Boston; Fanny Davenport; Helena Modjeska and Thalberg Corbett (billed as "T. B. Thalberg") in repertory; William S. Hart and [Madame Hortense] Rhea. Of note is a reduced facsimile playbill citing the first ever performance of the play in the United States, in New York, March 19, 1787, by the Old American Company with Mr. Hallam [Lewis Hallam the Younger] and Mrs. Morris; a performance to benefit Clara Biddles (billed as "Mrs. Thomas Barry"), starring herself and Frederic Robinson; a modern dress version at the Princeton Theatre Intime; a production by The Stewart Headlam Shakespeare Association (London).
  • There are several issues within this volume of The Stage and Booth's Theatre Bulletin. Some items are marked as belonging to the Players Collection and the Robinson Locke Collection.
  • Item 19, a program for an appearance by Henry Irving and Ellen Terry at the Star Theatre (N.Y.), contains marginalia by an anonymous theatre-goer: "with Miss Fidelia Bridges Monday Apl 21st 84"
  • Item 57, a program for the Cornish Shakespeare Festival Society Season 1937 (Cornwall, England), is stamped: "Bryant Park Open-Air Reading Room New York Public Library Extension Division"
