Summary
Um 300 n. Chr. verfasste Eusebius von Caesarea ein Verzeichnis der biblischen Ortsnamen. Darin listete er knapp 1000 Orte der Heiligen Schrift in alphabetischer Reihenfolge und geordnet nach biblischen Büchern auf. Etwa 90 Jahre später übersetzte und erweiterte Hieronymus, seit 386 selbst im Heiligen Land ansässig, dieses geographische Bibellexikon±. Diese Fassung liegt nun erstmals in deutscher Sprache und ausführlich kommentiert vor. Ein einzigartiges Zeugnis der frühchristlichen Bibelwissenschaft und eine der wichtigsten Quellen für die Palästinakunde.
