• Twenty nine programs (1906 - 1940) for Peer Gynt by Henrik Ibsen translated into English by William and Charles Archer, mainly in the United States with some in England, including regional, college, university, and amateur productions. Of note is a program for the first production of the play in the United States at the Grand Opera House (Chicago) starring Richard Mansfield in his last role before his death; Konstantin Stanislavsky's 1912 production for the Moscow Art Theatre translated into Russian by Anna Hansen and Peter Emmanuel Hansen; the Theatre Guild production starring Joseph Schildkraut with Armina Marshall and Edward G. Robinson; the Yellow Springs (Ohio) Summer Theatre production, affiliated with Antioch College, featuring Zina Provendie and Arthur Lithgow.
• Item 2, a program for a 1907 performance by Richard Mansfield at the New Amsterdam Theatre, contains a special advertising section for S & H Green Trading Stamps.
• Item 24, a program for an August 1938 performance at the Schauspielhaus in Nuremberg, Germany, promulgates Nazi ideology. The content of advertising, feature articles, and essays, all in German, was written to coincide with the Reichsparteitag Grossdeutschland, the Nazi rally which took place in September 1938 after the invasion and annexation of Austria, known euphemistically by the Nazi term Anschluss. Includes material about a gala performance of Richard Wagner's opera Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, designed by Benno von Arendt (images of Arendt's costume designs are included) and attended by Adolf Hitler, who is depicted in a half-tone photograph with Nazi soldiers and officers.
