Twelve poems by José Martí presented in Spanish (pages 5-16) and in English translation (pages 17-26). Several pages printed on brown paper, others decorated with brown paper cut-outs of drawings and titles; page 1 contains a photograph of the poet against a background of palm trees printed in black on heavy brown paper, repeated on separate title page for Two homelands on page 17, which has some portions colored in by hand; most pages have decorative printed borders.
Bound in stiff wrappers covered with black paper napkins; front cover decorated with cut-out photo of Martí and cut-out branches and leaves hand-colored; small white wax candle and a flower made of black paper napkins affixed to front cover; rear cover decorated with cutouts of palm trees and the oil lamp logo of Ediciones Vigía; decorated endpapers featuring pattern of leaves and branches and facsimile reproductions of writing in Martí's hand.
