Summary

"Javier Calvo is an artist who considers himelf and addresses his work as a Central American. From this stance, he questions Costa Rica's relations with the rest of the region as well as the relationship between the 'centre' and the 'periphery'. His reflections are based on the idea of Central America as a geopolitical region, as an unstable space that is constantly changing. In his works, Calvo undertakes a critical analysis of national and regional identities; within this neurosis he raises the issue of nationalist mappings and manages to draw an atlas of the myth of 'whiteness' in Costa Rica."
