Summary
Architect Julio Vilamajó Echaniz (b. Uruguay, 1894-1948) was a remarkable Uruguayan architect and teacher. He left fundamental works and projects, such as the Faculty of Engineering, his work in Villa Serrana, Rincón del Bonete, and several buildings and houses of great quality, including his own house, today open to the public by the Faculty of Architecture of the Udelar as Vilamajó House Museum. Its architectures are characterized by an admirable handling of space, sensitive and humanistic; to the point of specifying an inspiring reinvention of the site where they are installed. Recognized nationally and internationally, he was part of the select group of advisors of the United Nations project in New York. "Vilamajó, who had a deeply humanistic, intuitive, bohemian and polymath profile, is a paradigmatic figure of the entire field of architecture and design. In addition to his vast architectural work portfolio, he worked on interior and jewelry design, he produced films and cartoons and he was a great cook. And of course, he created the graphic artwork that is shown (only partially) in the exhibition "Julio Vilamajó, fábrica de invención", whose title is the name of one of his series, and which includes paintings, drawings, prints and sketches shown for the first time to the general public." --Page 90.
