- Letter of condolence to Metcalf on the death of his mother, Eleanor Metcalf, the granddaughter of Herman Melville. Eleanor Metcalf had made Olson's acquaintance in the 1930's and was an important contact for his "Melville Project." Their colaboration in turn fostered a strong literary connection between Olson and Paul Metcalf.
