Biography
Margaret Decker was born in East Orange, New Jersey in 1873 and died in Morristown, New Jersey on August 15, 1947. A daughter of a prominent local grocer who ran a prosperous family business (Decker Brothers or Charles M. Decker & Bros.), Margaret Decker attended the Morristown Seminary for Young Ladies and, during this time, kept a scrapbook diary where she recorded her attendance at theatrical performances in New York City and at social engagements in New Jersey. Decker became well known for charitable and political activity in her community, was married to W. Reginald Baker, and had two children. A history of the Decker family is available through the New Jersey Historical Society.
