Summary
Thirty one programs (1918 - 1938) for Lightnin' by Winchell Smith and Frank Bacon documenting the original Broadway production, which starred Bacon, as well as the 1926 London production, directed by Smith and starring Horace Hodges. Includes regional, university and amateur revivals in the United States, notably the 1938 revival starring Fred Stone, whose hand-drawn portrait by Bert Sharkey is used as a cover illustration for those programs.

  • A number of the programs contain advertising for Selznick Pictures, the film distribution company started by Lewis J. Selznick, father of producer David O. Selznick.
  • Item 11, a program for a 1920 production at the Gaiety Theatre (N.Y.), contains advertising by the reactionary political organization, the National Security League, seeking to raise funds for New York City schoolchildren to attend performances of John Drinkwater's play, Abraham Lincoln, then on Broadway.
  • Item 19, a program for a 1921 production at the Montauk Theatre (Brooklyn, N.Y.), is stamped: "Office Alice Kauser 152 West 42nd Street New York City"
  • Item 21, a 1922 program for the Blackstone Theatre (Chicago), features Jason Robards (Senior) in a role.
  • Item 25, a program for a 1925 production at the Shaftesbury Theatre (London), is part of the Stead collection.
