  • Volumes 1-3 have "in four volumes" on title page; volumes 4-5 have "in five volumes" on title page.
  • This work originally appeared in 2 vols., London, 1793. The second edition, London, 1801, was enlarged by the addition of v. 3, which was merely another issue of the author's "An historical survey of the island of Santo Domingo", London, 1801 (originally published 1797). In this 5th edition, the order of articles in vols. 1-3 is somewhat altered from that of the second edition.
  • The continuation (volumes 4-5) appears first in this edition.
  • Also published in London, in 1819, by G. and W.B. Whitaker, which is the edition identified by Sabin (cf. Sabin 21901).
