(Motion picture herald, November 15, 1941).
  • Doin' the town (1941): "This subject presents Ozzie Nelson and his orchestra, Helen Parrish and Butch and Buddy. Ozzie is seen here trying to land a radio program for a big banana account. He tries out various acts which include Miss Parrish singing 'Who Done It?' alone and a duet with him ; Butch and Buddy presenting 'Bananas Make Us Tough,' and a finale with the Hollywood Co-eds, novelty act." (Motion picture herald, November 15, 1941).
  • In the groove (1941): "Having missed their train, a troupe of specialty artists put on a 'show' in a small town railroad station, with Freddie Slack, boogie-woogie pianist, and his Eight Beats, furnishing the music. Performing are the Mercer Brothers, theatre and night club dancers ; Tanner Sisters, vocal trio ; Knight Sisters, adagio team ; Sunny O'Dea, dance artist ; Martha Mears, Columbia Broadcasting star ... Slack's rhythmic pianistics will have the swing fans tapping their feet, and the various vaudeville acts will please adults. Larry Ceballos directed, with Will Cowan as associate producer." Others are 'The King's Men,' excellent quartette; Candy Candido, June Haver and Allen Cole, vocalists; Igor and Poggi, Ruth Daye and Inestia, dancers. Selections are 'Don't Mind If I Do,' 'Old Dan Tucker,' 'The Reluctant Dragon,' 'I Like a Balalaika,' and Tschaikowsky's B-flat minor piano concerto, played straight and as a pop, 'Tonight We Love.' It's the usual thing, passable as filler, passably entertaining. Production is par. Exploit the band, possibly in connection with local engagements, and the number's, some of which are current hits GOOD." (The exhibitor, September 6, 1941).
