  • Chasin' the blues (1942): {28}CHASIN THE BLUES. Universal Name-Band Musical. 15m. Ted Fiorito and band play a few numbers, Fifi Dorsey and the Kings Men sing, and Margery Daye, the Stapletons, and Candy Candido perform, and the result is a run-of-the-mill short. It makes for pleasant, if unexciting, entertainment. Songs are: Seein Nellie Home, Youre A Sweetheart, Whistle Your Blues To a Bluebird, Its Fifi, Mr. Yankee Doodle, No, No, Nora, Jumpin Jive, and The Blacksmiths song.
  • Hit tune jamboree (1943): {28}Zippy. Lovers of popular music will react favorably toward this display of the art of George Olsen and his orchestra. Featured are a number of tunes which enjoy great popularity among young people. They include He's My Guy, Woodchoppers' Ball, Deep in the Heart of Texas, Green Eyes, Congomania, Heart of Harlem, Sleepy-Time Gal, Tiger Rag. Martha Mears lends her voice to the first one. The presence of the Mills Bros, adds to the short's attraction. They give Tiger Rag an especially good going-over.
  • Russian revels (1943): {28}This features Gertrude Niesen, Gregory Stone and Ensemble, Adia Kuznetzoff, Nina Koshetz, James Alexander, William Sabott, and other Russian artists. In a Russian wedding setting they deliver folk songs and dances in Russian, including a sword dance. The songs are, with the exception of one, in Russian, and this, perhaps, limits the value of the short to certain language spots. Songs are; When Moscow Sings and Dances; Lezginka, Kazbek, Niet, Slava, Trostchay, Bublitchki, Bottoms Up, and God Save Thy People. FAIR.
  • Serenade in swing (1942): {28}Cashing in on the radio and present name-popularity of Jan Savitt's orchestra, the producers here have concocted a highly original short. It offers the Savitt crew in the most favorable light & Six Hits and a Miss, seven member singing combination, measures up to its radio rep. Opening stems from a blackout of Broadway (N. Y.), with orchestra members taking cover in a museum. What ensues is supposed to be a rehearsal, giving film an informal touch. Martha Tilton, at one time with Benny Goodman's band, sings 'Whispering.' while Kenny Stevens vocalizes 'Now and Forever.' Both click, the comely Miss Tilton scoring on her ballading and looks. 'Six Hits' are best with 'There'll Be Some Changes Made.' Rhythm Rascals, male vocal threesome, romp through a swing tune. Miss Tilton and Stevens come back for duet of 'Ill Remember April and You & {28} (Variety, October 7, 1942).
  • Swing's the thing (1942): {28}Del Courtney and his orchestra are featured in this nightclub short with a variety of musical entertainment. Carol Bruce sings Temptation and Saint Louis Blues and an acrobatic dance team, the Crackerjack Foursome, perform in a novelty number. Also among the dancers is a magician with a disappearing partner.
