- Libretto by Lorenzo da Ponte; first performed in Prague at the National Theatre, 29 October 1787 (information from Grove/Oxford Music Online).
- First performed in this version in Paris at the Odéon, 24 December 1827, with dialogue from Molière's play (information from Annals of opera, 1597-1940 / Alfred Loewenberg).
- Date from plate number. See Dictionnaire des éditeurs de musique français, 1988, page 30 under Mme. Benoist. In 1821, her final year of business, Mme. Benoist (Benoit) did not use her name on imprints apparently because she was transferring her business to Charles Laffilé.
