Summary
A copy of the three-volume 1821 first edition (Edinburgh: W. Blackwood and T. Cadell), with the author's considerable manuscript revisions, cancellations, and additions for the 1842 Standard Novels edition. Interleaved, with clippings of proofs of the 1842 edition pasted opposite the corresponding text in the first edition. Volume 1 extra illustrated with an engraved frontispiece portrait of Lockheart (by H. W. Smith after Pickersgill) with the bookplate of John Blackwood, Edinburgh. Two letters from Lockhart to Blackwood (MISC 0684-0685) tipped in at the back of volume 3. Bound in black morocco with gilt spine titling.
