Summary

The 170 proverbs presented here in a bilingual version are part of a larger corpus collected from various West African peoples: Malinkés, Toucouleurs and Badiarankés. They are only a small part of the immense cultural heritage of these peoples. Proverbs are polysemic: they only make sense in the context in which they were used and in the concrete situations in which they are expressed. It is their richness that the book reveals through linguistic and cultural insights.
