- "Blues People: Negro Music in White America" written in 1963 was the first book-length history written by an African American that addressed the social, musical, economic, and cultural influences of the blues and jazz on American history. Joining Amiri Baraka in this conversation are be two scholars in this field: Ingrid Monson, the Quincy Jones Professor of African American Music at Harvard University; and John Szwed, the Director of the Center for Jazz Studies at Columbia University. A question-and-answer session follows the conversation.
