Summary
"If no one sings, it is quiet," says Roma B. in Rainer Werner Fassbinder's play "The Rubbish, the City and Death". Raimund Hoghe quotes this sentence in his portrait of a Frankfurt house owner who fought in the 1980s against the construction of Europe's tallest skyscraper in her neighborhood. She turned down the millions of severance packages offered to her by banks and said no to the destruction of her neighborhood. Roma B.'s sentence could also stand above other texts that Raimund Hoghe has put together for this book. They tell of people who show an attitude and go their own way, for example the Nazi-persecuted tenor Joseph Schmidt, the authors Pier Paolo Pasolini and Hervé Guibert, the Butoh dancer Kazuo Ohno, Gret Palucca or Pina Bausch.
