Summary
Operetta implies entertainment and frivolity - and this is is exactly the mood that Pina Bausch and her dancers wanted to encapsulate. Renate Emigrates flirts with its audience in true operetta style. On the other hand, it deals frankly with love's disappointments and frustrations. It is perhaps Bausch's most elegant and entertaining dance-piece, made in collaboration with her brilliant set and costume designer Rolf Borzig. A kind of Hollywood meets Wuppertal in which love and dance can work together in harmony.
