Summary
Curated by the artistic director of fine arts, Mariana Marchesi, the exhibition comprises a hundred paintings, drawings, watercolors and prints, some of them never exhibited, highlighting the early work of the great Argentine artist. Covering a period from Julio Le Parc's (b. Mendoza, Argentina, 1928) student days in the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes of Buenos Aires until his early years in Paris, where he developed his initial experiences with geometric abstraction. In 1957 he started experimenting with abstract techniques, and in 1958 he was awarded a scholarship by the French government, settling in Paris where he founded theGRAV (Groupe de Recherche d'Art Visuel [Visual Art Research Group]) being part, at the same time, of the Nueva Tendencia. In the 1960's Le Parc was considered within the movement called Op-art (artwork whose movement is created by motors, machines, or electrically powered systems), considered a portion of kinetic art, and even conceptual art, although his works transcends them and is more experimental.
