  • Gerald Horne is an AfricanAmerican historian who currently holds the John J. and Rebecca Moores Chair of History and African American Studies at the University of Houston. Gerald Horne was born on January 3, 1949, and was raised in St. Louis, Missouri. After undergraduate education at Princeton University he received his Ph.D. from Columbia University and a J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. Throughout the course of his academic career, Horne has authored numerous books and articles, many of which address race, labor, and politics. He has done extensive research on and written about such individuals as W.E.B. Du Bois, Shirley Graham Du Bois, Lawrence Dennis, and Ferdinand Smith, as well as organizations that include the National Maritime Union, African National Congress, and the Communist Party.
