- Map is a combination of a sea chart and a land map. It covers the coastal United States from southern New Jersey down to Florida, the Gulf of Mexico with New Spain, the West Indies, the Greater and Lesser Antilles, Central America, and the Atlantic coast of South America to British Guiana.
- Title from cartouche in upper left hand corner of map.
- Name of creator appears above neat line in bottom center of map.
- Place of publication and names of publishers from text in upper right hand corner of map.
- Suggested date of publication supplied by Burden.
- This map represents state three of the plate with the cartouche in the upper right erased and the following engraved in its place: Heroes hodierni argonautae in occiduo: of Hedendaagscher helden-toght, met oorlogs vloten en heirlegers over zee getrocken, Virg: erunt etiam altea bella oceani finem juxta solemq[ue] cadentem, tot Amsterdam by Gerard Valk en Petrus Schenk. Also, the author statement in bottom center of map has been shortened. According to Burden, the first state of this map appeared around 1655.
