- Summary
- The book, composed of a series of reproduced images of metal engravings and drawings, is inspired by the photographs that Charles Eisenmann took between the 1870s and 1880s, in his studio in Bowery, New York, and those of the successor Frank Wendt, who moved the studio to New Jersey in 1898. The short texts that accompany the images (taken from articles written by J. Tithonus Pednaud) are taken from the websites "The Human Marvels : Freaks, Geeks and Human Oddities!" and "Sideshow World." Pfüller uses these images and the motif of the "freak show" to draw parallels between contemporary views and treatment of marginal human groups.
