Summary
  • The SAGE Harlem Legends in my Living Room collection consists of transcripts of interviews with thirteen LGBT African Americans about their experiences during the 1960s through 1980s. Interviewees include Joyce B. Banks, James Davis, Alex Gilliam, James Harris, Pauline Kennedy Rice, Beau McCall, Shelly Montrose, Alexis Page, George E. Stewart, Nora Ann Thompson, Edward Wallace, Tanya Walker, and Tina Williams.
  • SAGE (originally Senior Action in a Gay Environment, later Services and Advocacy for LGBT Elders) was founded in 1978 in New York City to provide social support to New York City’s LGBT elders. The SAGE Center in Harlem was established in 2004. The SAGE Harlem Legend in My Living Room Oral History Project was created by Souleo Wright and Steven G. Fullwood to capture the experiences of African American bisexual, gay, lesbian, and transgender people (LGBT) between the ages of 52 to 82.
