- Chemist Albert Antoine was born on January 14, 1925 in New York City. His parents, Wilhelmina Marie and Emmanuel Evans Antoine, were natives of the British West Indies. He earned his B.S degree from the City College of New York and his Ph.D. in chemistry from Ohio State University. Antoine served as professor of chemistry at Clark College in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1954, he became a research chemist at the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics, NACA, which was renamed NASA when space research was added in the 1960s. Antoine worked at the NASA Lewis Research Center, researching jet and rocket propulsion, fuel efficiency for aircraft, alternate fuel sources, batteries, and fuel cells. In 1983, Antoine became a senior research associate for Cleveland State University teaching students at the NASA Lewis Research Center. Antoine was an American Chemical Society member and worked with the Council for Careers in Science.
