Summary

U.S. Army General Vincent K. Brooks was born in Anchorage, Alaska, on October 24, 1958. Brooks graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1980, where he made history as the first African American West Point cadet to achieve the top military position of cadet brigade commander. Brooks has since remained on active duty, now as a four-star general. He served in positions in the United States and abroad, including commands in Germany, Korea, Kosovo, and Iraq. In 2003 Brooks was the daily spokesman for U.S. Central Command and later coordinated the U.S. military efforts in the war on terrorism. On July 2nd, 2013, General Brooks was appointed to command U.S. Army Pacific. Brooks is part of a history-making military family. With his father and brother sharing Brooks' status as Army general, they are the only African American family to have three generals within two generations.
