Summary
Educator and administrator Andre Hornsby was born on October 7, 1953 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Following high school, Hornsby received his A.A. degree in pre-medicine and education from Arizona Western Community College in 1973. He earned his B.S. degree in education from the University of Tulsa in 1975 and his master's degree in health and physical education from the University of Houston in 1976. He began teaching that same year. In 1982, he earned his doctorate of education from Texas Southern University. Between 1995 and 2003, Hornsby served as superintendent of the South Central district of the Houston Independent School District, and then as superintendent of the Yonkers, New York public school system. From 2001 until 2003, Hornsby was president of the National Alliance of Black School Educators. In 2003, he became supervising superintendent of Executive Leadership Development in New York. He was CEO of Prince George's County Public Schools in Maryland, but was convicted in 2008 of public corruption.
