- Foundation executive and civil rights lawyer Lynn Jones Huntley was born Mary Lynn Jones on January 24, 1946 in Petersburg, Virginia. Huntley attended Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. She earned her A.B. degree in sociology from Columbia University's Barnard College in 1967. She graduated cum laude with her J.D. degree in 1970 from Columbia Law School. Huntley clerked for Judge Constance Baker Motley in 1970 and joined the NAACP's Legal Defense Fund in 1971. She was general counsel to the New York State Commission on Human Rights. In 1978, Huntley joined the United States Department of Justice Civil Rights Division and was acting Deputy Assistant Attorney General. In 1982, she joined Ford Foundation's Rights and Social Justice Program, and later became its director. In 1995, Huntley joined Southern Education Foundation and conducted a study of race and poverty. She became its president in 2002 and passed away in 2015 at the age of 69.
