Summary
Politician and educator Anita J. Ponder was born on April 16, 1961 in Fort Valley, Georgia, the oldest of three children. She obtained her B.S. degree in journalism/communications from Florida A&M University and her J.D. degree from the South Texas College of Law, a private school in Houston, Texas. She resigned a lucrative Houston law practice to become judge of the Municipal Court in her hometown, where she pursued a career in the public and civic sector. Active in the community, her annual Holiday Feast for All feeds members of the Macon community during the holiday season. She served as president of the Macon City Council and director of education at the Tubman African American Museum in Macon, Georgia, the largest museum of its kind in the Southeast. Living in Macon, Georgia, she enjoyed her hobbies as an equestrian and as a collector of antique cars and luxury and vintage watches.
