- Journalist Monica Kaufman Pearson was born in Louisville, Kentucky on October 20, 1947. Like her mother, Hattie Wallace Jones Edmondson, Pearson attended Catholic schools during her formative and high school years. After earning her B.S. degree in English at the University of Louisville, she worked at Brown Forman Distiller in public relations, and as an anchor and reporter for WHAS-TV in Louisville, Kentucky. As the first African American and the first female to anchor a daily evening newscast in Atlanta at WSB-TV in 1975, she led a distinguished career in journalism as the anchor of Channel 2 Action News at five, six and eleven o'clock. She has received several awards, including over twenty-eight Emmy Awards and first place for her documentary, Hot Flash: The Truth About Menopause from the Atlanta Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. Retiring from television in 2012, she hosted the Monica Pearson Show on FM radio.
