- Academic administrator and corporate executive Marcia Cantarella was born in 1946 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She graduated from Bryn Mawr College in 1968 and earned her M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in American Studies from New York University in 1992 and 1996 respectively. In 1972, Cantarella took a job in New York City with Avon Products. She was promoted to director of public affairs in 1976; and director of special markets in 1980. In 1985, Cantarella left Avon to pursue consulting work. In 1988, she became executive director of the National Coalition for Women's Enterprise. In 1999, she became assistant dean at Princeton University. In 2002, she was named vice president for student affairs at the Metropolitan College of New York. As acting associate dean at Hunter College, she co-directed the Black Male Initiative. She was also a consultant for the National Urban Coalition for Effective Education, PBS' "All The Difference" project.
