Summary

University president Earl S. Richardson was born on September 25, 1943 in Westover, Maryland. After earning his B.A. degree from Maryland State College in 1965, Richardson joined the Air Force. After serving for four years, he returned to school, attending the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned his Ed.D. degree in 1976. Richardson worked at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, and was promoted to executive assistant to the Chancellor in 1975. In 1982, he became assistant to the President of the University of Maryland system. Richardson was named interim president of Morgan State University in 1984, and became the university's eleventh president the following year. Under his leadership, both enrollment and financial contributions to the school grew dramatically. Richardson was active in the community as well, serving on the board of directors of the Baltimore Boy Scouts, among other organizations.
