- Business consultant and syndicated columnist James E. Clingman, Jr. was born on August 11, 1944, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He graduated from Graduated from Winthrow High School in 1963; and earned his B.A. degree from the University of Cincinnati. Clingman strongly advocated for the economic empowerment of African Americans. In 1996, Clingman founded and served as president and executive director of the Greater Cincinnati African American Chamber of Commerce. He wrote a number of books on race and economics, including Economic Empowerment or Economic Enslavement - We Have a Choice and Black-O-Knowledge: Stuff We Need to Know. As a former editor for the Cincinnati Herald newspaper and an adjunct professor of African American Studies at the University of Cincinnati, Clingman penned a nationally syndicated weekly column called "Blackonomics." He also served as a member of the Cincinnati Black Business Association; and, the Harvest Institute.
